๐Ÿ“Œ 1. Number & Place Value

Numbers to 1 Million

PlaceHundred ThousandsTen ThousandsThousandsHundredsTensOnes
345,678345678
345,678 = 300,000 + 40,000 + 5,000 + 600 + 70 + 8
Write: 456,789 in expanded form

Comparing & Ordering Large Numbers

234,567 < 456,789 (compare digit by digit from left)
Order smallest to largest: 123,456; 456,123; 234,567

โž— 2. Operations

Multiplication

FactExample
2-digit ร— 1-digit23 ร— 4 = 92
3-digit ร— 1-digit234 ร— 5 = 1,170
2-digit ร— 2-digit23 ร— 14 = 322
Multiply, then add carried values!

Division

Division is sharing equally or repeated subtraction.

96 รท 8 = 12 (How many 8s in 96?)
Long division: 78 รท 3 = 26
Solve: 144 รท 12 = __________

Order of Operations (BODMAS)

Brackets โ†’ Orders โ†’ Division โ†’ Multiplication โ†’ Addition โ†’ Subtraction

3 + 4 ร— 2 = 3 + 8 = 11 (not 14!)
(3 + 4) ร— 2 = 7 ร— 2 = 14
Calculate: 5 + 3 ร— 4 = __________

๐Ÿฐ 3. Fractions

Understanding Fractions

3/4 = numerator (parts we have) / denominator (total parts)

Equivalent fractions = same value, different numbers

1/2 = 2/4 = 3/6 = 4/8
Write two equivalent fractions for 1/3

Adding & Subtracting Fractions

Same denominator = easy! Different denominator = find common denominator first.

1/4 + 1/4 = 2/4 = 1/2
1/2 + 1/4 = 2/4 + 1/4 = 3/4
1/3 + 1/3 = __________

Comparing Fractions

If denominators are same: larger numerator = larger fraction
If numerators are same: smaller denominator = larger fraction
3/5 vs 4/5: 4/5 is larger
Compare: 2/3 __________ 3/5

๐Ÿ“Š 4. Patterns & Algebra

Number Patterns

2, 4, 8, 16, 32, ... (ร—2 each time)
5, 10, 15, 20, 25, ... (+5 each time)
Continue: 3, 6, 12, 24, __________, __________

Finding the Rule

Look at input โ†’ output to find the pattern

Input: 5 โ†’ Output: 15 (rule: ร—3)
Input: 8 โ†’ Output: 11 (rule: +3)
Find rule: Input 7 โ†’ Output 21

๐Ÿ“ 5. Word Problems

Solving Strategies

  1. Read the whole problem
  2. Find the question (what do I need to find?)
  3. Find the numbers and information
  4. Decide which operation (+, -, ร—, รท)
  5. Calculate the answer
  6. Check if the answer makes sense

Practice

1. A book costs $12. How much for 8 books?

2. Tom has 156 stickers. He shares them equally among 12 friends. How many each?

Answers: 1) 96, 2) 13
