Understanding Integers

Integers include negative numbers, zero, and positive numbers.

Negative: Below zero (cold temperatures, debt)

Positive: Above zero (height, money you have)

Adding & Subtracting Integers

• Same signs: Add, keep the sign (3 + 5 = 8)
• Different signs: Subtract, keep the larger sign (7 + -3 = 4)
• Subtracting: Change to adding the opposite (5 - -3 = 5 + 3 = 8)
